#30 - Coming Home to Nature

Story #30 - Coming Home to Nature

Written by Sarah Frustié

This article explores what ecotherapy is, using clear and simple points.

Nature

You are intrinsically connected to nature. The wisdom of Mother Earth guides you towards exploring, healing, and growing. You are nature.

Mindfulness

Ecotherapy is a slow and intentional process that calls on deep grounding, care and nervous system regulation. It involves being in the here and now, active listening, stillness, contemplation, and the art of noticing.

Cycles

Nature teaches us to embrace rhythms and cycles. We learn to accept chaos, disorder, and discomfort as essential aspects of being. We learn to embrace both destruction and renewal, necessary for rebuilding.

Reconnection

Ecotherapy is a profound invitation to reconnection.

One that brings you back to yourself. Exploring all the parts and layers of who you are. It involves deepening and discovering your connection with your sacred, wilder self through your bond with the natural world.

Soul Work

Therapy can support you in reconnecting with your deeper, darker, wild, sacred and brighter Self. We learn how to embrace the unknown, the invisible, the intangible. Therapy is soul work and can also be a spiritual quest.

Discomfort

Therapy can be a challenging, deep, occasionally painful, and uncomfortable process. Reorganising the mind and reconnecting humans with themselves and nature can be a slow and confusing process.

Balance

The idea of finding the perfect balance is a myth. Realistic balance comes from experiencing and embracing inevitable challenges and imperfections, while also cultivating inner peace.

Relationships

Therapy is also about learning to master relationships and communication. We focus on forming, maintaining, and enriching relationships with yourself, others, animals, and the more-than-human world.

Change

Change is inevitable. We learn to navigate and integrate change with acceptance, openness, and awareness, stepping into a more authentic and empowered version of yourself.

In essence, Ecotherapy is an invitation to come home:

  • Come home to yourself,

  • Come home to nature, and

  • Come home to the deeper rhythms of life.

To summarise, ecotherapy includes:

Nature → Mindfulness → Cycles → Reconnection → Soul → Discomfort → Balance → Relationships → Change → Coming Home

Ecotherapy is a homecoming. It is not about fixing or escaping what is difficult, but about learning to listen, feel, reconnect, and grow through it.

Through nature, mindfulness, relationship, discomfort, cycles, and change, we begin to remember something we may have forgotten: we are not separate from nature. We are part of it.

And sometimes, healing begins when we slow down enough to remember.
